The South Mountains host some of North Carolina’s most rugged terrain with elevations up to 3,000 feet, an 80’ waterfall, mountain springs and streams, and over 40 miles of hiking, equestrian, and mountain bike trails. 

South Mountains State park is also home to the Jacob Fork River, which offers miles of trout fishing and paddling. South Mountain stands prominently over Hickory and the foothills towns of Marion, Nebo, and Morganton. It’s only about 1-1.5 hours to and from Charlotte, Mooresville, Winston-Salem, North Wilkesboro, and other areas. It is the perfect place for a retreat.
