Tekoa Foothills | Casar, NC Summer Camp and Lodge Rentals

What is a Homeschool Day?

Homeschool Days are designed with kids in mind! These lessons are built around current teachings from the homeschool curriculum and from Tekoa Foothills Outdoor Education courses: Unplugged! In the morning, kids are invited to participate in Unplugged from 10:00-11:30. This is a time of fun learning while exploring nature! After a break for lunch, a mini lesson is taught centered around seasonal activities (gardening, seeds, leaf studies, tree identification, etc.). The field trip concludes with enjoying an adventure program- ziplining, archery, axe throwing, slingshots, low ropes course. Study velocity while racing across the zipline or learn about force while projecting an arrow towards the bullseye. Lessons are created based on the grade level of registrants.

When are these awesome days of fun?

Homeschool Field Trip Days are the third Thursday of every month from 10:00am-3:00pm. You may choose to participate for the entire day, for the Unplugged session only (10:00-11:30am), or for the afternoon only (12:00-3:00pm).

Who can participate?

Any homeschool students from Kindergarten to 8th grade are welcome to register! Only a short drive for residents of Cleveland County, Catawba County, and Lincoln County. This all-day event is perfect for families from further away as well.

Safety Concerns

Homeschool Days are designed to educate, inspire, and captivate students regarding the components of the natural world. Be prepared for weather you may encounter- bring an extra change of clothes, wear layers and closed toed shoes, and consider bringing an umbrella and a raincoat just in case! All students should bring a water bottle and a mask for indoor use. As the lessons are taught exclusively outside, wearing masks is merely suggested rather than required. Masks are required inside buildings. In the case of inclement weather, you will be informed ahead of time if there are any changes or cancellations.

Additional Information

If you plan to stay for the entire day, please pack your lunch and snacks. Breaks are scheduled that allow for students to use the restroom and eat any food they may have brought. Parents and guardians are required to stay on-site for the duration of the field trip. Check-in is on the front steps of Loy White Lodge. All activities are led by trained Tekoa Foothills staff; parents are invited to enjoy free coffee and tea on the front steps of Loy White in the event of student-only activities.
